Emergency Psychiatric Services at Rhode Island Hospital
Rhode Island Hospital provides Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES), including emergency psychiatric evaluation and crisis management for adults suffering from anxiety, depression, manic depression, eating disorders, panic disorders, schizophrenia, substance abuse, thoughts of suicide, or other psychiatric illnesses. Our expert staff includes psychiatrists, psychiatric clinical nurse specialists, psychiatry residents and social workers.
Located adjacent to the emergency department at Rhode Island Hospital, PES is able to provide quick evaluation of both primary psychiatric illness and the complex interplay of medical and psychiatric issues. Our services are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Through Lifespan Behavioral Health Services, PES refers patients to a wide range of treatment programs, including psychotherapies (talk therapies), psychopharmacologic management, day hospital treatment, and inpatient treatment. PES staff works closely with referral sources, family members and other Lifespan partners to provide efficient, quality care in the least restrictive environment possible.
