Safety is our top priority
We want to assure you that the we are here for you. While the coronavirus has changed much of our daily lives, one thing that has remained constant is our commitment to providing you with the best, safest care possible.
Lifespan hospitals are at the forefront of treatment and research for infectious diseases.
The Division of Infectious Diseases at Rhode Island and The Miriam hospitals provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient medical care to patients with any type of infectious disease.
Pursuing a Passion
Philip Chan, MD, is attending physician in infectious diseases and a HIV researcher.
Rhode Island and The Miriam hospitals are major teaching affiliates of The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and host the nationally recognized Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program. In collaboration with the medical school, our mission is to provide state-of-the-art care, teach and mentor tomorrow’s health care providers, and pursue clinical and basic research.
Our areas of expertise include bacteriology, global health, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS), infection control, virology and sepsis research.
A Regional Resource
In The News
Our Infectious Diseases and Immunology Center, located at The Miriam Hospital, is the largest provider of outpatient care in Rhode Island for patients with infectious diseases and serves as a resource to community health care providers.
The center is the home to specialized outpatient clinics treating patients with Lyme disease, HIV, hepatitis and tuberculosis, among other conditions.
Coordinated with the Rhode Island Department of Health, our Community Infectious Disease Prevention Clinic also provides prevention, counseling, testing and treatment services.
The division represents one of the leading infectious diseases research programs in the nation. We are active in clinical, translational and basic science research, and annually receive close to $12 million in external funding.
We support an extensive clinical trials program that helps to expand knowledge about and access to therapy for HIV, viral hepatitis and other infectious diseases.
Our research and global health care initiatives are bolstered by several key partnerships, including the Lifespan/Tufts/Brown Center for AIDS Research (CFAR), the Brown University School of Public Health and the Brown Global Health Initiative.
