Pediatric Endocrinology Clinics and Conferences
The Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes Center offers several ongoing clinics and conferences. Learn more below.
Diabetes Conference
A diabetes conference occurs once a month from noon to 1 p.m. New patients are discussed with the entire diabetes team, including the nurse educator, dietitian and social worker. The outpatient fellow then presents a paper from the current diabetes literature.
Pediatric Noon Lecture Series
The Pediatric Noon Lecture Series occurs nine months per year, from noon until 1 p.m. in room 151 at Hasbro Children's Hospital. Attendings present a case-based lecture to the pediatric housestaff on a fundamental topic in pediatric endocrinology (DKA, thyroid disease, growth disorders, abnormalities in puberty, calcium disorders, etc.). Fellows are expected to attend: this serves as their core curriculum. Third-year fellows are expected to give one of these lectures.
General Endocrine Conference
The General Endocrine Conference takes place on Mondays from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. New patients and complex follow-up patients seen by fellows, residents and attendings are discussed. Interpretation of growth charts, lab results and pertinent literature are emphasized.
Endocrine Grand Rounds
Endocrine Grand Rounds take place Wednesday afternoons during the academic year from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. This is co-sponsored by the division of endocrinology, department of medicine and pediatric endocrinology and metabolism. Six speakers per year have a focus on pediatric endocrinology. This is an academic conference with presentations made by visiting clinical physician scientists. Four times per year, fellows in pediatric endocrinology give the presentation.
Pediatric Grand Rounds
Pediatric Grand Rounds occur on Friday mornings from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. in the George Auditorium at Rhode Island Hospital.
Quality Assurance Conference
Quality Assurance Conference takes place on the last Friday of the month at 11 a.m. in the conference room, MPS-2. On service fellow presents the month's consultations. Discussion focuses on approach to diagnosis, interpretation of results, medical errors, quality of care and appropriate follow-up.
Pediatric Research Colloquium
The colloquium occurs on Friday afternoons from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. in the South Pavillion conference room at Women and Infants' Hospital during the academic year. This conference is a mix of clinical and basic science research presentations made by fellows, faculty and visiting scientists.

New patients and occasionally a paper from the literature are discussed with the team from 8:30 to 9 a.m. This clinic is held jointly with pediatric cardiology and a dietician and exercise physiologist are in attendance. Two to three new patients and four to six follow-up patients are seen.
