The division’s laboratories are home to a basic research program that focuses on the regulation of normal and abnormal cell growth. In recent years, areas of research have included control of cell division and protein synthesis during liver development; the effects of nutrient signaling on growth plate chondrogenesis; hormonal control of adipogenesis; and fetal metabolic programming through epigenetic mechanisms. In addition to standard cell biology techniques, the lab routinely employs high-throughput genomic and proteomic analyses.
