Breast Reconstruction Surgery

What Is Breast Reconstructive Surgery?

Breast cancer is the most common cancer for women.  Breast reconstruction after lumpectomy or mastectomy helps to restore the size, shape and appearance of the breasts.  Each patient’s reconstruction plan can be as unique as their individual cancer.

What Are the Different Types of Breast Reconstructive Surgery?

During your surgery consultation, you and your surgeon will discuss specific treatment options tailored to you. Some treatments we offer are:

  • Implant based reconstruction
  • Flap based reconstruction
    • DIEP flap (belly tissue flap)
    • IGAP flap (lower buttocks flap)
    • Latissimus dorsi flap (back flap)
    • PAP flap (thigh flap)
    • SIEA flap (belly flap)
    • SGAP flap (upper buttocks flap)
    • TRAM flap (abdominal flap)
    • TUG flap (upper thigh flap)
  • Nipple reconstruction

Why Is Breast Reconstructive Surgery Done?

The decision to pursue breast reconstruction after lumpectomy or mastectomy is a very personal choice.  Breast reconstruction surgery can help reshape breasts or restore the look of breasts.  Breast reconstruction can help a patient feel better about how they look after their cancer surgery.
