Wenliang Song, MD, MTR, FNLA

Director of Lipid Research

Wenliang Song, MD, MTR, FNLA, is the director of lipid research at the Lifespan Cardiovascular Institute. As a physician-scientist, he specializes in general cardiology with an emphasis on preventive cardiology and lipid disorders.

He graduated from the Shandong University School of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency at the Yale University Bridgeport Hospital and his cardiology fellowship at Vanderbilt University. Dr. Song also conducted postdoctoral research on bioactive lipids at the University of Pennsylvania.

Prior to joining Lifespan and Brown University, Dr. Song served as an assistant professor on the tenure track at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he established and led an independent laboratory and worked as an attending physician in the Lipid Clinic and the cardiology division.

Dr. Song is an experienced medical researcher with more than 30 published articles and more than 3,000 citations to his work. His research program has received funding from the American Heart Association and the National Institute of Health. His laboratory explores novel therapies to reduce the risks of cardiovascular diseases.

He is board-certified in internal medicine, clinical lipidology, and cardiovascular disease. Dr. Song is also a fellow of the National Lipid Association (NLA) and served as the co-chair of the early career development committee of the NLA from 2017 to 2022. He has also served on editorial boards and as an associate editor for multiple journals.
